Nature Nocturne 2 - Holiday Assembly at Museum of Civilization

Each month Nature Nocturne takes over the Museum of Civilization here in Ottawa with a nightclub theme, this month featured The Holiday Assembly which was presented by Spins & Needles. It was a great experience to be a part of this event.

Holiday Assembly features underground DJ sounds, art installations, seasonal workshops and a holiday night market of unique gifts for men and women. Gathering together peeps in the city's burgeoning creative scene and beyond. Plus lots of traditional festive cheer.

We’ll be in the 4th Floor Gallery, top floor. You’ll have access to nature exhibits and other activities throughout the Museum that evening.

Part of the Museum’s Nature Nocturne series and Support Local month in Ottawa.

I had the honour to DJ upstairs in the Lounge!

Also feature sets by D-Mass, Skills and Meterman!

Ottawa Senators Foundation - 2013 Ferguslea Sens Soirée (Graffiti)

I had the pleasure of being a part of the 2013 Ferguslea Sens SoirĂ©e, the premier fundraising event of the Sens Foundation, which raised $255,000 in support of the region’s children and youth. Monies raised support the Sens Foundation and their initiatives with youth mental health and addictions, pediatric healthcare programs and outdoor community rink construction projects.

This year's theme was Graffiti and featured a selection from Ottawa's urban Hip Hop and Arts community.

More than 700 guests along with Senators players, members of the coaching staff and management, attended this year’s event, which was themed Graffiti, at Gatineau’s Hilton Lac-Leamy. The players and their significant others hosted a variety of games while interacting with guests during the cocktail reception. Graffiti artists and entertainment groups Ottawa Urban Arts, DJ Calkuta, myself, DJ J.E.T.S., and the Breadcrumb Crew provided the entertainment as well as a feature performance by The Joint.

Onvii Studios Scratch Session - Montreal

It is always interesting to attend something for the first time, especially when it is outside of your hometown. The last time we had a Jam like this was in Ottawa, back in February, and a handful of the Montreal DJ's came up so it was only fitting that we go down to check how they do things and show support.

This was the 5th official Onvii scratch Jam, which takes place the first Sunday of each month, and like all session was broadcast live online at djweb.tv. Myself and two other DJ's from Ottawa attended; the idea peaked our interest from the get go and after watching some of the previous shows online we knew it was something to not be missed. In total there were almost 20 people who came to participate, all Scratch Junkies and music lovers alike. This included the crew of DJ's from France, that now live in Mtl and who are definitely influencing all those around them with their clean technical cuts, our group from Ottawa and locals from the Montreal area. I wish I could say I was able to take in everyone's name but none the less I don't see this being the last time we see each other.

It started with an hour or so of practicing and warming up before the live broadcast. The vibe was good and everyone was still feeling the room out but it didn't take long for us to start speaking to each other through our scratches. Every style was very unique and not one scratch was ever the same in the whole 2 hours we jammed for. The influences and ideas you get from being at an event like this cannot be duplicated through watching YouTube videos or listening to tutorials and audio clips, this is one of those things that unless you were there you won't have that seed planted in your brain. It is motivating to be at these sessions and it gets you to start exploring new patterns and techniques that you otherwise may not of come across so readily. Ever since I started checking this out I find my cuts have improved and how I approach each practice session at home has also shifted.

Overall it was a great experience, I hope to attend more of these and help inspire more and more people to come Jam. If you are interested in participating at an event like this or are looking at setting something similar up in your city you should make the effort to check it out.  You can watch the Jam at djweb.tv

Shout out to all the DJ's that came out and everyone at Onvii Studio for letting us be a part of this.

Scratch Freestyle

Put this edit together from my solo drummin n cutting session I did last weekend. Gave me an excuse to also learn some more about video editing and all that fun stuff.

I hope to be able to get up to Montreal this next weekend for their monthly scratch jam but I am not sure if I will be able to make it due to scheduling, there is always next month. It is usually held the first Sunday of each month, let me know if you would like more information.

House Mix "Comp."

House Mix which I submitted to the Elements Music Festival in March: (Was based on likes, hence why I said "comp"; I was quite happy with how the Mix turned out though)

Inspired for the Scratch Meet

I started 2012 off with my first YouTube video, a Scratch Freestyle video, to get inspired for the upcoming meet that was being organized for the following month. This was also my first time editing a video, came out alright but I hope to get some multiple angle edits for the next ones etc.. just getting something out there was the goal. Anyways, here it is:

2011 Wrap-up

In conjunction with one my latest mix's - 2011 Pop MashUp Music - I thought I would share my thoughts on what I experienced on a slightly personal and mostly artistic level last year, before I get into what I see forecast in 2012.

2011 was a year that motivated me to get active again and exposed into the social network of the music life; from my YouTube channel to my Soundcloud account to my Twitter account and most recently my DJ Facebook Page, I would say I have definitely started to lay the foundation to achieve this. This would be perceived by some as a sudden burst of activity from next to none in the past 3 years, and that is simply because... it is.  My influences and experiences that caused this to happen stemmed from many different places over the past year or so and I am very excited to have this part of me be awoken again. Music and DJ'ing have always been a passion and talent that I feel I can use to express myself and grow with, so to have it be apart of my daily life feels nothing but right. Never did I expect to mostly set it aside for almost 4 years, with a few on and off spells here and there, in order to pursue other things, such as finding full time work, working to buy a home and also getting hitched, but that is what some artists need to be able to do to clear their heads and obtain other things in life. All I can say now is that the time is ripe and I am excited do be where I'm at.

Back to the music, 2011 was a busy one for me in many ways as I spent a lot time working on techniques and studying the independent music movements of the past little while. Music is a full time job for any dedicated artist, so adding this to my routine took a little getting used to again. I can't say that I was able to get as much time as I wanted but it is always a process. As long as you are moving forward you are achieving is how I look at it. Once it became apparent to me of what I needed to do I began to take the steps to make it happen, hence the onslaught of social network outlets and free downloadable mixes and a few re-releases of old tracks I produced.

At the end of 2011 I also connected with a few new people and was invited to take part in a scratch jam that took place earlier this year, you can read more about it here. This really reminded me of why I originally fell in love with DJ'ing and the art of turntablism. DJ'ing has come so far with the development of control records and new softwares but being reminded of where you came from and why you got into your passion in the first place can be the most motivation one can get sometimes.

More to come...
